Surface Dyakonov–Cherenkov radiation

چکیده
Abstract Recent advances in engineered material technologies (e.g., photonic crystals, metamaterials, plasmonics, etc.) provide valuable tools to control Cherenkov radiation. In all these approaches, however, the particle velocity is a key parameter affect radiation designed material, while influence of trajectory generally negligible. Here, we report on surface Dyakonov–Cherenkov radiation, i.e. emission directional Dyakonov waves from swift charged moving atop birefringent crystal. This new type highly susceptible both and trajectory, e.g. observe sharp enhancement when falls vicinity particular direction. Moreover, close threshold, such can be orders magnitude higher than that obtained traditional detectors. These distinct properties allow us determine simultaneously direction velocities compact platform. The studied this work not only adds degree freedom for identification, but also provides an all-dielectric route construct detectors with enhanced sensitivity.

Surface plasmon radiation forces.
We report the first experimental observation of momentum transfer from a surface plasmon to a single dielectric sphere. Using a photonic force microscope, we measure the plasmon radiation forces on different polystyrene beads as a function of their distance from the metal surface. We show that the force magnitude at resonance is strongly enhanced compared to a nonresonant illumination. Measurem...
متن کاملDistorted Reflector Antennas: Radiation Pattern Sensitivity to the Surface Distortions
The high-frequency performance of the reflector antennas is mainly limited by the surface. It has been shown that distortions on different regions of the reflector surface can have different effects on the radiation performance. In other words, degradation of the radiation pattern due to the presence of surface distortions is sensitive to the location and behavior of the surface distortion prof...
متن کاملReverse surface-polariton cherenkov radiation
The existence of reverse Cherenkov radiation for surface plasmons is demonstrated analytically. It is shown that in a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide, surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) excited by an electron moving at a speed higher than the phase velocity of SPPs can generate Cherenkov radiation, which can be switched from forward to reverse direction by tuning the core thickness of the ...
متن کاملOn surface radiation conditions for an ellipse
We compare several On Surface Radiation Boundary Conditions in two dimensions, for solving the Helmholtz equation exterior to an ellipse. We also introduce a new boundary condition for an ellipse based on amodal expansion inMathieu functions. We compare the OSRC to a finite difference method. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
متن کاملRadiation guiding with surface plasmon polaritons.
Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are electromagnetic (EM) modes propagating along metal-dielectric interfaces, in which surface collective excitations of free electrons in the metal are coupled to evanescent EM fields in the dielectric. Various SPP modes can be supported by flat and curved, single and multiple surfaces, exhibiting remarkable properties, including the possibility of concentrati...
